Next steps towards pay equity: a discussion document
The Ministry of Women's Affairs' recently released discussion paper provides information on the gender pay gap as well as the current range of government policies designed to address it. The Ministry is also seeking feedback about how to progress employment equity in New Zealand. Submissions are due by 30 November 2002 and can be sent to: Towards Pay Equity, Ministry of Women's Affairs, PO Box 10-049, Wellington, e-mail mwa@mwa.govt.nz
A copy of the discussion paper is available online.
CEVEP will be preparing a submission which should be shortly available from this website along with a guide to writing submissions.
NSW pay equity for women
The first case under the NSW Equal Remuneration Principle was successfully heard in March 2002. This test case for improved pay and better career paths for librarians employed by NSW government agencies, saw substantial pay rises for librarians who have been historically undervalued. As a female dominated profession, this decision also formalised the professional status of librarians, placing them on equal footing with lawyers, engineers and other professional categories.
